HISTORY

There are fast Fords and there is the Escort Cosworth. To make this car all FORD had to do, was take the running gear from an RS Sierra 4x4 and insert it into a 3-door escort. Sounds easy but the development started in 1998, and the first car to come out of the factory was April 1992.

Designed at Boreham, and built by Karmann in Germany. It was always Fords intention to go racing and rallying in this car.

The orginal homologation run was 2500 big turbo'd escorts. This was a car you could not miss with it's blistered arch body, bi-wing spoilers and waiting to be fitted in the boot was a water injection system.

Announced in June 1992, the Escort RS Cosworth had little im common with the Escort of the day. Only the tailgate, roof and doors were standard escort, the rest is unique to the cossie.
